MEMBERS IN MOTION GLOBAL HEALTH LEADER CHRIS ELIAS, an international leader in the field of global health, joined the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as president of the global development program. Chris joined the foundation this past February after 11 years as president and CEO of PATH, a nonprofit catalyst for global health. The Gates Foundation global development program focuses on potential high-impact and sustainable solutions that can reach hundreds of millions of people. Chris also serves on various advisory boards, including the University of Washington's Department of Global Health and the Duke Global Health Institute. While at PATH, he helped grow an annual budget of $44 million to nearly $300 million. During that time, the organization grew from 300 employees to more than 1,000. "That speaks to what has happened in global health," he said in an online interview posted on the PATH website. Jeff Raikes, CEO of the Gates Foundation, welcomed Chris with high remarks. "Chris brings great experience in managing complex programs on the ground, around the world," Raikes said in a foundation press release. "He will help us expand the depth of our expertise from research and development through to delivery of the tools needed to give the poorest people the chance to live healthy and productive lives." Added Chris: "I am deeply honored … I look forward to applying my experience in health and development to help advance the foundation's ambitious mission." 18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | MAY / JUNE 2012 SUE BELLER, president-elect of the WAC Wine Club and an experienced attorney specializing in alternative dispute resolution, recently began a weekly radio show focused on conflict resolution and global problem solving.
