Did you know there are actually three levels below the lobby—home to the maintenance shop, laundry facilities, and even a kennel for pets of hotel guests. In the last several months, I've had a chance to visit some of the out-of-the-way places at the Club. There are two full kitchens at the WAC. Competent and caring staff under the direction of Executive Chef Eric Floyd prepared more than 122,000 meals and catered more than 1,300 events last year. To put that another way, we make more than 4,800 sticky buns every month! We also have a special cafeteria just for employee team members. It consistently e're all familiar with the WAC Lobby, the locker rooms, Hagerty's and the 8th Floor Sports Café. But as you can well imagine, there's a whole lot going on behind the scenes at the WAC that helps make our experience as mem- Letter from the Chairman Rob Fleming, Chairman of the Board of Governors / rfleming@clarknuber.com receives high reviews, and O. Rummel, employee dining room cook, was recently voted WAC Team Member of the Year by his fellow employees. This prestigious honor was awarded at the annual team member recognition dinner. Congratulations to O. for a great job. Also behind the scenes at our Club is a new wine storage facility. At last count, we had 8,994 bottles of wine in inventory. Can you tell we keep a close eye on this stuff? At the annual Washington Wine Restaurant Awards event, the Club took home a Grand Award in recognition of the WAC's support of the Washington wine industry. We can all raise a glass to that one. Another very busy but rarely seen location at the WAC is our laundry facility. All of the sheets and towels in the hotel, table linens, and all those towels used in the locker rooms add up to thousands of items cleaned every month. During my recent visit to the laundry, I learned that an average of 437 towels are replaced each month. If you've accidentally taken one home, please consider returning it—no questions asked. Meanwhile, the maintenance shop in the basement is filled with the tools it takes to keep all the systems in the Club in top working order. It must be a fun place to work because Bill Rawe, building engineer, will celebrate his 55th year with the Club this June. Congratulations, Bill, for all you do and for being our longest- working team member. And thanks to all the team members who work behind the scenes. See you around the Club. 4 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | MAY / JUNE 2012
