Letter from the Program Board Chair By Dean Nielsen, Program Board Chair 2011–2012 The many faces of Club events W There's something for everyone at the WAC that is only one of more than 300 special Club events that take place every year. During the past several months I've attended many WAC events, each with a different feel and atmosphere, from the New Year's Eve Party to a tour of Seattle's secret speakeasies to a great cooking class at Serafina. No matter what your idea of fun, there's something for henever I meet new members at the WAC, I tell them the Club is more than they see at first glance. Many have heard about our annual Jubilee, but you at the WAC. Simply turn this magazine to the Club Programs listings on page 44 to begin your exploration. I, for one, highly recommend the sunset sail in August and the electric- boat scavenger hunt in July. Even members who know about In fact, many of you share a similar history at the Club. This year, we joined in the Club's recognition of outgoing President & CEO Jim Johnson and his equally successful wife, Anni, who has served on the Program Board for the past 15 years. The Program Board also was thrilled to see Chuck Nelson take the helm as WAC President & CEO, and we look forward to seeing where he leads the Club moving forward. I'm proud to report that I've developed a whole new family at the WAC, largely through my participation on programing committees and the Program Board. I started as a member of the 20s/30s Committee, where I served as vice chair, and have served on the Arts & Entertainment Committee, which I chaired for two years. In the spirit of Club Programs, I've become connected to my fellow members and built long-term friendships. My story isn't unique. Meanwhile, I look forward to continuing to support the Program Board, I feel as if my journey at the WAC is only beginning. Congratulations to the 2012–2013 Program Board officers: Pam Nord (chair), Frank Yon (vice chair) and Courtney Meyer (secretary). And thank you to the members of the five standing committees: Arts & Entertainment, 20s/30s, Northwest Discovery, In the Know, and Family Activities. Thank you also to the fabulous and dedicated WAC staff who make Club Programs possible: Vice President Club Programs Melissa Borders and her team, Robert Laurent, Cheryl Simmons and Mary Ellen Jilek.
