Treat your taste buds to three of Ballard's greatest hot spots and relish in gourmet food and specialty beverages. Get a group together or come solo for this journey through historic Ballard. Begin the dining adven- ture at Moshi Moshi and sample one of its famous cocktails and some of the best and freshest sushi in Seattle. Less than 500 feet away is Volterra and a chance to escape to Tuscany with a great glass of wine and some Italian favorites. The final stop will be La Isla for some authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. This four-hour event is a perfect way to celebrate with friends and meet new people. 6–10 pm; $80; noncancelable/nonrefundable; 21+; guests welcome with members Intro to Stained Glass at Glassique Design Studio Saturday, June 16 Learn the art of stained glass and create your own beautiful colored panel at this special WAC class. Artist and studio-owner Richard Heath will share his artistic pas- sion and expertise. You'll learn hands-on techniques for cutting and grinding glass as well as pattern-making, leading and solder- ing. Bring your own design or select from geometric, floral or scenic options available at the studio. At the end of class, take your stained glass panel home as a treasure to hang in a special window. Lunch will be provided in the studio by Snappy Dragon restaurant, four-time winner for best Chinese food in Evening Magazine's "Best of Western Washington" competition. Event includes instruction, supplies, lunch and soft drink. 11 am–4 pm; $60; cancel by June 8 Fremont Saturday, July 14 NEW Sushi Making at Chiso in Known for the freshest sushi in town, Chiso in Fremont is opening its doors to WAC members who want to learn how to make sushi. In this private hands-on class, you'll learn the important role rice plays and how to prepare it correctly. You'll also learn about the five different kinds of sushi: hand, skinny and fat rolls, California-style rolls, and nigiri. After a demonstration of each kind by owner and sushi expert Hirohiko Kirita, you'll be given ingredients, supplies and expert assistance to try your hand at rolling your own. After you enjoy some of the fruit of your labor, it's time for a little friendly competition. Selected group members will be chosen as head chefs and charged with leading their team in creating the tastiest, wildest and wackiest rolls you can think of from secret ingredients. Judges will rate creations on taste and creativity. 11:30 am–2 pm; $80; cancel by July 3; meet at Chiso on Lake Union Friday, July 20 NEW 5th Annual Scavenger Hunt Don't miss the WAC's most popular annual summer event. Begin by selecting someone to be captain and pilot of your 10-person electric Duffy boat, and then head out into heated but friendly competi- tion against other teams. As you race around Lake Union, your team must solve a list of crafty clues and puzzling riddles to determine the identity of items visible from the lake. You have two hours to complete the task—but the team on the first boat to return with the most correct answers wins a prize. Each year has all-new clues, so repeat scavengers don't have an advantage. Of course, you'll be burning up brain fuel as you solve the clues, so picnic-style food platters, bottled water and soft drinks are included onboard. You may bring your own beer, wine or other beverages to help energize your creative thinking. Put togeth- er your own team of 10 friends and family members, or we'll partner you at the dock when we meet on the west side of Lake Union. Enjoy a warm summer evening on the beautiful waters of Puget Sound aboard a 70-foot custom performance yacht. Experience sailing in Northwest fashion, with delicious appetizers served with Washington wine and beer or nonalcoholic beverages. Set sail from Seattle's historic waterfront en route to the calm and scenic bays of Bainbridge Island. Unwind and enjoy a beautiful summer sunset while mixing and mingling with other WAC members and crew.
