Team Member of the Month TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH Sports Café Manager Anne-Marie Mennen calls Lani Baniaga her "right-hand person." "She's like a busy bee around the Sports Café," Anne-Marie says. of the fruit bar or soup bar, Lani inspires those around her. "Lani is amazing," co-worker Olga Chavarria says. "Almost 10 years of working with Lani, and SEPTEMBER › LANI BANIAGA › SPORTS CAFÉ Whether she's cleaning, stocking, or taking care I always see her willing to give her very best with everybody—team members and members alike." Adds Anne-Marie: "She also has been a tremendous help in the training of new employees. Lani is an incredibly hard worker, a dedicated employee and team member, and fantastic with the membership. Most of all, she's a kind-hearted, fabulous person. She's also one of the best moms I know. Her daughter, Harmony, is one lucky girl." OCTOBER › O. RUMMEL › 3RD FLOOR KITCHEN You'd be hard-pressed to work at the WAC and not know employee cook O. Rummel, who keeps team members eating day after day. Members might not see O. very often, but his meals keep team members running. "Since O. took over as employee cook … there has been a marked difference," says Club Programs Event Coordinator Cheryl Simmons. "His ethic, attitude and excellence are stellar." O. also was named the 2011 Team Member of the Year. For more on that, see page 6. NOVEMBER › KEVIN BROADIE › HAGERTY'S & TORCHY'S Bartender Kevin Broadie sets a high standard for other team members in Hagerty's and Torchy's, according to Restaurant Operations Manager Danielle Crowson. "He is consistently seeking to help the team and make service run as smooth as possible," she says. Kevin marks five years at the WAC on May 22. "He is always looking for ways to improve things for the good of the team and the membership instead of himself alone," Danielle says. "Current and new servers have appreciated his efforts. He genuinely cares about the membership and offering them the highest level of service." DECEMBER › CAROL MATHAY › ACCOUNTING In her almost 30 years at the WAC, Carol Mathay has seen a lot of change. Through it all, she has remained constant in her dedication, integrity and work quality. Carol is always willing to help anyone with problem solving, training or assistance—and does so with a smile and a laugh. 22 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | MAY / JUNE 2012 "Carol is the kind of person that keeps you smiling and motivated," co-worker Stephan Gerhardt says. "She is truly a team player." WAC Controller Sandy Cramer agrees: "She takes ownership of the department and always strives to provide quick and courteous service to all without exception."
