WALKING WITH FRIENDS E "On the 20s/30s Committee, we've had conversations about how, as WAC members, we can be more involved in the community." WAC members—power-walk around First Hill early on a Sunday morning. They're among thousands walking and running to raise funds for ovarian cancer research in the annual Marsha Rivkin SummeRun & Walk. "It's a great way to hang out and have LSEWHERE IN SEATTLE, a group of old friends and new acquaintances—many of them fun, and it feels good to support each other," says Kim Connell, who walked last year. At the time, Kim's mother was battling cancer. "It was incredibly moving to see so many people out supporting the cause," she says. Kim learned about the walk from fellow 20s/30s Committee member Chris Barone. For three years, Chris has spearheaded the effort—enlisting friends to walk, pinging his extensive network for contributions, and walking himself—in partnership with his good friend and Marsha Rivkin Center board member John Diefendorf. "We're good, dear friends in life, and we support each other's charities," adds Carese Busby, who donned her sneakers for the Rivkin walk and participated in a Seattle Dances! fundraiser for Plymouth Housing Group last March. Chris was among the WAC members who packed tables and cheered on Carese's dancing. "The WAC is very focused on community and giving back," Carese says.
