Events By Julie Vieselmeyer, WAC Triathlon Coach WAC triathletes enjoy Seafair event M clouds hung in the sky, yielding perfect conditions for some 15 WAC athletes, who participated in either the sprint or Olympic-distance event. The latter began with a one-mile swim in Andrews Bay, off the western shore of Seward Park in Lake Washington. A 20-mile bike along Lake Washington Boulevard and the I-90 express lanes, and a 10-kilometer run around Seward Park capped off the Olympic-distance course. Twenty-year-old Reid Shaw topped the WAC's age-group embers of the WAC Tri/Cycle Club competed in the 12th annual Benaroya Research Institute Seafair Triathlon this past July 22. Summer showings, winning gold in his first ever Olympic-distance triathlon. Reid won the men's 20- to 24-year-old age group. Other WAC highlights included Laura Inveen's second- place finish in the 55- to 59-year-old women's category. She was just 42 seconds behind the first-place finisher in that age group. Naomi Mason, meanwhile, placed third in the women's 50- to 54-year-old age group. In the sprint event, Carol Coram placed second in the women's 60- to 64-year-old category. The WAC is the official athletic club of Seafair sporting events, including the Seafair Triathlon, a fundraiser support- ing research of autoimmune diseases. The WAC's Laura Inveen, Cathy Jeney, Janet Morton, Erie Stone, Julie Vieselmeyer, Peter Guyer, Amy Hughes and Kelly Hooper (group photo, back row) join Reid Shaw, Carol Coram, Naomi Mason, Angie Corwin, Erin Danner and Pam Leno after the Seafair Triathlon.
