Now in its eighth year, the Classic has developed a reputation as one of the finest events on the Champions Tour. Just a few minutes away from downtown Seattle, at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, the Boeing Classic provides numerous opportunities to create memories and enjoy world-class golf. The three-day tournament takes place August 24–26, but a week of golf action and events begins on August 20. The Boeing Classic raises thousands of dollars in support of the Benaroya Research Institute, a worldwide leader in autoimmune disease research. It takes nearly 1,000 volunteers to make the week full of action happen, and there are a variety of ways for you to participate. Visit boeingclassic. com for more information about volunteering and how to sign up. If you're not interested in 2011 Champions Tour winner Mark Calcavecchia sinks a putt. volunteering, flash your WAC membership card at the entrance on 22 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2012 Whether volunteering or attending, you don't want to miss this event Friday through Sunday and spend a day at one of the most scenic golf courses in the Northwest. While you're there, you'll rub elbows with some of the greatest names in the history of the game. Believe me, there's a great chance something will happen you'll never forget, like the time my wife turned off her full- volume cell phone ringer two seconds before she received a call while sitting 10 feet from Fred Couples attempting a putt. A close call, indeed! Speaking of Fred Couples, the Puget Sound native will be playing the Classic this year and is sure to draw a crowd. Also on hand will be past tournament champions Bernhard Langer, Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Kite, as well as legends Mark O'Meara, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw. As you can see, there will be no shortage of golf stars. Champions Tour golfers are known for their friendly approach to spectators, so you'll get up-close and personal in a comfortable environment. While you're there, swing by the WAC tent to say hello. —Wayne Milner is the Vice President Athletics and sits on the Boeing Classic Tournament Committee.
