{BUZZ} A Brave Rob Fleming, outgoing Chairman of the Board of Governors, and Chuck Nelson, President & CEO, congratulate Spa Manager Suzana Sakay. Spa at the WAC takes national honor THE NORTH AMERICAN ASSOCIATION of Club Athletic Directors held its annual awards ceremony at The Arbutus Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, this past June, and the Spa at the WAC received the organization's Spa of the Year award. Nominated by Vice President Athletics Wayne Milner, the Spa at the WAC was selected over spas from other athletic clubs around the U.S. and Canada for its facility, offerings, service and financial performance. "Great credit goes to Spa Manager Suzana Sakay for her passion and leadership," Wayne said after the award was handed out. "The Spa at the WAC has never been better. Suzana has put together a team of high-quality professionals who provide outstanding service and understand what working in the premier athletic club in America truly means." Suzana also was named WAC Manager of the Quarter this past spring. For more on that, see page 21. The Spa at the WAC is located on the 4th Floor and offers retail products, nail and hair care, skin care, and several types of massage. More information on Spa services can be found on pages 56–57. When we asked him for a book recommendation, he pointed us to Jim Yardley's Brave Dragons: A Chinese Basketball Team, an American Coach, and Two Cultures Clashing. Here's what Jeff said: "This book chronicles the experience of one-time Seattle Supersonics coach Bob Weiss in China as he is hired to Americanize the Shanxi Brave Dragons basketball team. The basketball side of the book is interesting. With their focus on constant physical training and drills, players find very little opportunity for creative freedom on the court. But the book is also very much about cultural differences. That is: Change comes very slowly in China." —Jim Yardley is a Pulitzer Prize- winning journal- ist currently working in India for The New York Times. Yardley's brother Bill is the newspaper's Seattle bureau chief. AUGUST | 2012 Olympic glory in WAC pool IMAGINE GETTING IN the pool with an Olympian. That's exactly what a select group of WAC members did this past June when two- time Olympian (2004, 2008) Margaret Hoelzer visited Helene Madison Pool on the 6th Floor. Hoelzer offered some great in-water tips and spoke about her career. "Margaret gave clear hints on freestyle technique and made it extremely fun," Aquatics Supervisor Jennifer Mesler said. Margaret stayed for photos and autographs. She even allowed members to wear her Olympic medals. "We had a great time," said Jennifer, who strung all three of Hoelzer's medals around her neck and said: "They're heavy." After the in-pool session, WAC champ off to Olympic Games CONGRATULATIONS DOMINIC BREAZEALE, A SUPER heavyweight boxer, for being named to the U.S. Olympic Team for this month's Summer Games in London. Breazeale won the super heavyweight bout at this year's WAC Main Event. Congratulations also to two other 2012 Main Event winners who recently won National Collegiate Boxing Association titles: Air Force's 165-pound Casey Habluetzel and University of Nevada 185-pounder Josue Gaytan.
