Teamworks TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH If WAC kids voted, Kyle would be a perennial Team Member of the Month. The WeeWACs staffer loves working with children, and his dedication and patience make him a standout for the kids and parents of WeeWACs. "There hasn't been a child yet who he cannot connect with on some level," WeeWACs Manager Shawn Bonney says. "He is a wonderful nurturer and a fabulous role model for all the children in our care." JANUARY › KYLE SHAFFER › WEEWACS Kyle helps provide a safe, fun, educational and energetic environment in WeeWACs. He treats children with integrity and respect and provides excellent service to members and team members. Vice President Athletics Wayne Milner also gives Kyle high praise. "My kids think Kyle is the second coolest guy on the planet," Wayne says. Many team members around the WAC know Patty Smith as the "mom of maintenance." She's responsive and helpful, and she acts quickly in a pinch. She also keeps a constant eye on what's coming up and anticipates needs before they arise. "She is always on her A-game and takes on new challenges with enthusiasm," Building Operations Manager Dennis Williams says. "She exemplifies our core values and consistently goes above FEBRUARY › PATTY SMITH › MAINTENANCE and beyond." Patty works directly with WAC engineers, painters, carpenters and the rest of the maintenance crew. Her diligence and friendliness endear her to all. If Patty doesn't know the answer to something, she knows where to find it. Efficiency, organization and thoroughness are her middle names. "I'm hard-pressed to think of a more deserving team member than Patty for this award," Dennis says. Adrian has been at the WAC for seven years. He started in the 6th Floor Sport Shop and moved to Men's Fitness three years ago. As a Men's Fitness attendant, he's known for his smile and positive attitude and for being warm, friendly and dedicated. "He goes out of his way to make sure the members are taken care of," Men's Fitness Manager Bill Munn says. "He upholds the WAC values, and he consistently seeks opportunities MARCH › ADRIAN LEANO › MEN'S FITNESS to improve the level of service." Adrian generally works the evening shift and says the best part of his job is meeting members. "He has a great rapport with the evening members that frequent Men's Fitness," Bill says. 20 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2012
