Knowingly or even unknowingly, during the holiday season, we may be inclined to indulge in a few too many shortbread cookies. Or maybe aunt Cathy baked your favorite pie, and you grabbed a bigger piece than you should. Our intentions are pure, we just want to enjoy ourselves and spend quality time with our loved ones. You usually don't see the harm in having one more cookie. But before you know it, you leave the gathering with your shirt untucked, your pants unbuttoned, and a huge tummy ache. Inside of our bodies lay trillions of microorganisms that live in our digestive tracts. This is bacteria, as well as archaea, fungi, and viruses. Consuming enough rich food around the holidays is enough to irritate these microorganisms causing you to feel yucky inside. It's important to make sure you pay attention to the signs your body is giving you, especially during the holiday season. For nearly three months each year, we are celebrating and eating things that we wouldn't normally eat in our daily diet. And yes there are holidays all throughout the year, however, fortunately for us, there's some good news. We can cure our own gut bugs with a few simple remedies. Here are six tips for helping you recover from your holiday overindulgence: Use Artichoke For centuries, artichoke has been used to stimulate the flow of bile from the liver. Bile is an extremely important digestive substance that is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Overindulgence interferes with healthy bile flow which creates a myriad of immediate digestive disorders, such as bloating. Stimulating this process helps to reduce the symptoms of heartburn, high blood sugar, and bloating, the three most common problems with indulging in too much throughout the holiday season. Relax It won't do your digestive system any good to try and keep up with the crowd. Take some time, even if it's just twenty minutes, and relax. If you're still around family sit in a chair and make yourself comfortable while you chat it up. Make a cup of hot tea, and sip on it. If you've already gone home for the day, try taking a hot bath or shower. Don't push yourself to do more than you need to do, your body needs time to get back to normal. And it will get back to normal, you just have to give it time. Use Ginger Ginger is a great cure for many, many things. However, it's most commonly used to treat upset stomachs. Whether you're suffering from morning sickness, nausea, gas, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, or holiday overindulgence which I think just about covers most of those icky feelings, ginger can help you. Some people take capsules to help them, some put it in their water with lemon, and some people make tea with fresh ginger. Ginger is a stimulant that promotes blood circulation. It contains a strong antioxidant called gingerols that will help decrease the free radicals your body has produced and relieve you from the damage to the body. Aside from this, it aids a muscles relaxer for the intestinal tract. Which provided you with relief from the stomach pain occurring due to over indigestion. Stay Hydrated from Holiday Overindulgence
