Do you maybe think of getting rid of toxins from your body? The exact definition of a detox is a process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances. Some examples could be a "juice detox" or a "detox from recreational drugs". When someone talks about doing a juice detox, they are talking about only ingesting juices with properties to cleanse the body and get rid of any kind of toxin left from different substances ingested in the past. Our biggest organ that most doctors may refer to that does most of the "detoxing" in our body is the liver. The liver is the largest solid organ in the body. It removes toxins from the body's blood supply, maintains healthy blood sugar levels, regulates blood clotting, and performs hundreds of other vital functions. How incredible is it that we have an entire organ that dedicates it's time and energy to removing toxic substances from your body? Yet, it's not the only mechanism of detox that the body is capable of practicing. In chiropractic we care so much on the nervous system and having a good nerve supply to and from the brain. With that being said, our nervous system is in charge of absolutely every system of the body, every cell, every organ, every vein, artery, etc. So, let's break it down in simple terms. Why is it that chiropractors care so much about the brain and your neurology? What if I told you the brain has its own way of detoxing itself from toxins as well? The internal jugular vein serves as the main source of blood flow down from the brain. It's the major drainage of blood, waste and cerebrospinal fluid from the brain. But guess what sits right behind the internal jugular vein? The first bone of your spine called C1 or the atlas. When that first bone of the spine called the atlas becomes misaligned, this can put pressure on the internal jugular vein, and block up the drainage flow from the brain. Therefore, toxic waste gets stored in the brain. This is where diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's comes into place because they are categorized as neurodegenerative diseases, from toxic waste build up in the brain. Atlas misalignment starts from the moment you are born. Let's think about this together. When you are born through the vaginal canal, and the doctor tugs on the baby's head to pull them out, wouldn't we all agree that this can be traumatic to the baby's cervical spine (their neck)? Therefore, this means that a human being can start living their life with a subluxation (misalignment of a bone in your spine putting pressure on the nerve, Internal Jugular Vein and it's Detox Property
