At Family Health Chiropractic, we understand the importance of how nutrition impacts chiropractic care. Just like a motor needs fuel, your own body needs to run on fuel that is appropriate for energy levels and provides the best vitamins, minerals, and other benefits for health. Nutrition and chiropractic care greatly impact your ability to feel full of energy, have enough energy to exercise, and maintain a healthy weight. Not eating correctly can lead to major issues such as Diabetes, high blood pressure, tooth decay, certain cancers, cardiovascular issues, and digestive issues. It is important to mention the need to hydrate your body when discussing nutrition and chiropractic. The right amount of water to be drinking is half your body weight in ounces every day. According to a 2021 article published in the Journal of Human Kinetics, adequate hydration is indispensable when it comes to sports performance. Drinking enough fluids helps provide energy, reduces the risk of sports injuries, boosts mental clarity, and aids in recovery- all of which boosts your performance. Athletes have to be very strict with what goes into their body. Here is a list of foods to avoid: 1.) Sugar- leads to high levels of inflammation, turns to fat, and leads to insulin resistance which can cause Type II Diabetes and cancer. 2.) Artificial Sweeteners- linked to causing cancer and overeating due to suppressing the body's ability to feel full. 3.) Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)- flavor enhancer linked to diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight gain. 4.) Wheat and Gluten- Gluten is the vegetable protein that makes up wheat, oat, and rye products. 70% of the U.S. population has a gluten intolerance. What is the importance of nutrition in relation to trying to be fit? Eating right can help us reduce body fat, lose weight, and reduce the risk of illness. Fitness programs include nutrient- dense foods (or "superfoods"), lean proteins, healthy carbohydrates, and fats essential to our health. Superfoods are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants relative to the amount of calories that they contain. Superfoods contain compounds that increase our metabolism for fat burning. Competitive sports and chiropractic care go hand in hand. The Foundation of Chiropractic Progress explores the need for athletes to maximize their sports performance with chiropractic care. Chiropractors are employed by 90% of pro sports teams, including athletes at lower or more casual levels who can also benefit from chiropractic care by receiving individualized treatment that focuses on the health of the whole athlete, as well as injury prevention and better performance. The three key components for athletes under chiropractic care are: balance, stability, and flexibility. Doctor of Chiropractic also offer personalized care for athletes and non-athletes such as: 1.) Periodic checkups to optimize joint function. 2.) A mix of exercises, stretches, flexibility, increase speed, and strength. 3.) Nutritional and dietary guidance to make sure that athletes take in the necessary calories, water, and nutrients in order to build or maintain muscle. 4.) General health and wellness lifestyle support. Whether you are an athlete or not, regular chiropractic care will always help your body function at its optimal level.
