It showed the positive effect that chiropractic care can have on the immune system and general health. Dr. Pero measured the immune systems of people under chiropractic care as compared to those in the general population and those with cancer and other serious diseases. His initial three-year study was of 107 individuals who had been under chiropractic care for five years or more. The chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence than people with cancer and other diseases. The superiority of the immune system under chiropractic care did not diminish with age according to Dr. Pero. He also stated that he never has seen a group other than the chiropractic group to experience a 200% increase over the normal patients. Patrice Brennan, Ph.D., conducted a study that found improved immune response in her test subjects following a chiropractic adjustment. The study showed how neutrophils and monocytes, two white blood cells that attack invaders in the body, were enhanced in adults that had been adjusted by chiropractors. Life Chiropractic University, the school I graduated from, had an incredible study from Sid Williams Research Center in 1994. A group of HIV positive patients got adjusted over six months and they found that 48% had an increase in the number CD4 cells. A key component in making the immune system strong. The immune system is affected by the nervous system through the connection of the endocrine system and autonomic nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments improve the function of the nervous system by improving the movement of the spinal cord. Physical stress, emotional stress, and chemical stress alters the strength of the immune system by causing vertebral subluxations. A subluxation is when a vertebra comes out of alignment and puts direct pressure on the nervous system that controls the immune system. Side note: I am very honored to be a part of celebrating the 25th anniversary of Abby's Nutrition Store.
