For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even with faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?" (1 John 5:3-5, KJV). God's Word declares that if we are born of God, we are overcomers in this world. Therefore, considering all of the things we face and walk through, and for God to still declare that we are overcomers, gives great hope. But then, we are not overcomers through our flesh; instead, we are overcomers because of the Spirit of God that dwells within us. It is not by might nor by power but by the Spirit of God. Verse 3 tells us that it is the love of God that we keep His commandments and that they are not a burden to us. This means that even when there are difficult times in our lives, we need to realize that it is not us but the Spirit of God in us that causes us to be overcomers. Satan will take advantage of every situation to defeat us. He will use well-meaning people to send darts and to sidetrack us. He often uses the things closest to us, yet we are more than conquerors in all of these things. We can live on a plane where we realize that it is not our power but the Spirit of God within us overcoming situations. His Word declares that all things work together for good for those called according to His purpose. Knowing that we are all called, we must realize that God's strength is perfected in our weakness. There are times that I don't feel like I am an overcomer. In those times, the Spirit of God reminds us of who we are and who we can be in Him. Yes, we will be tried, tested, molded, and made into the man or woman that God has called us to be, but even in all of these circumstances, we are more than overcomers. We must remember we are overcomers by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Do you feel less than an overcomer? If so, take hold of the promise of God and move by faith because God's Word says that those born of God are overcomers.
