There are a few circumstances where underlying disease such as hypothyroidism or Cushings disease may lead to obesity, but for most animals the amount of physical activity and metabolic energy being used is less than the amount of energy coming in from the diet. Simply put, obesity results when more calories are going in than are being used. Where To Begin Step 1: The best defense is a strong offense! Stop polluting the body! Begin by eliminating or at minimum reducing exposure to toxins. Read labels, research and due your due diligence. www.ewg.org is a great free resource. Action steps to target: Proper Diagnostics: Don't wait until your fur baby has "symptoms" to seek answers. Health care (as opposed to broke care) is aimed at affirming there are no deficiencies, toxicities, or mitochondrial dysfunction. Food: The absolute worst diet to feed dogs and cats is a processed kibble diet! Dogs and cats are biologically designed to eat a balanced raw diet. Visit EvoloveRaw.com for more information. Feed an organic diet, free of hormones, chemicals, pesticides and GMO's. Feed 1-2 times a day, and with proper supervision, intermittent fasting may be beneficial. Water: Tap water is arguably the worst water to offer pets. Water needs to be highly filtered to remove contaminates like heavy metals and glyphosate. It should also be "structured" and ideally have molecular hydrogen. For more information on water, visit: www.springaqua.info/ hydrate where you will find a plethora of information! Indoor Environment: Test for mold, organic volatile compounds that off gas from formaldehyde and fire retardant and electrical magnetic frequencies (EMF). Outdoor Environment: #1, do not spray with chemicals and weed killers, especially products that contain Glyphosate and avoid taking your pets to areas that use these. Personal Care Products: Anything that touches the skin, including laundry products should be organic and free of ingredients (Zenoestrogens) that disrupt hormones. Reduce or eliminate A.N.T.S in the Brain: Automatic Negative Thoughts produce neurochemicals that compromise the immune system and stimulate sympathetic tone (puts the body in a state of fight/flight). Detoxification only occurs when the body is in a parasympathetic state (rest/repair/detoxify). Pets entrain (pick up and share) to the energy of their human family. Maintain a strong healthy gut membrane: The gut mucosa is the primary defense of the body. A healthy gut membrane allows the right nutrients in and keeps toxins out. "Leaky gut" occurs when the gut membrane becomes compromised, allowing toxins in that otherwise would not have entered. These toxins travel via the blood steam to the liver. The liver recognizes the invaders and mounts an inflammatory response to eliminate them. This repetitive inflammatory cycle is the underlying cause of all dis-ease. Visit evoloveraw.com for items that repair the gut membrane. A healthy microbiome: A healthy microbiome has between 20,000 and 30,000 different species that contribute their genes to coding for and running over 90% of the metabolic, biochemical, genetic activity that occurs inside us and our pets. Simply stated, we can't live without the bacteria, parasites, fungi, and other organisms that co-exist in our bodies. It is in our best interest to nourish and support a health microbiome if we expect to thrive in the world. Step 2: Provide all the essential nutrients the body needs to do its job. Visit EvoLoveRaw.com for more information. Step 3: Heal leaky gut syndrome. Reference the many previous articles on this subject Step 4: Detoxify. Start by getting out of Sympathetic tone and into Parasympathetic tone. Conditions that promote sympathetic tone include pain, anxiety, fear, and emotional stress. Address the underlying cause relating to the pain. For the emotional component, there are many effective techniques, but my personal favorites include: 1. Magnesphere Therapy. This is the easiest and most effective. The patient relaxes inside the unit and is immersed in pure parasympathetic frequencies. 2. Frequencies that can be played through the computer. Contact Pasco Veterinary Medical Center. www.pvmc4u@pascovet.com for more information. 3. EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique uses pressure on acupuncture points to stimulate areas in the brain to relax and allow reprograming of limiting beliefs. In my practice I combine all the above to achieve the best outcomes for pets and their parents. Step 5: Support the mitochondria (the organisms that produce the energy the body runs on.) All aspects of "living" require energy, especially detoxification. Adopting the principles outlined above supports mitochondrial biogenesis (make more mitochondria) and helps them function at their maximum. Now I know that I'm preaching to the choir, as those people who are reading this article and Abby's magazine are already on an enlightened path. But we need to do more than change our behavior, we need to influence those around us too. Make a goal to educate and influence 1 person a week to change just 3 things about the way they eat and clean (themselves, their pets, and their environment). Support business like Abby's that are committed to organic sustainable and environmentally green living. Vote with your dollars If we quit buying the toxic products, companies won't keep making them! www.drmarlenesiegel.com www.transformingvetmedicine.com www.pascovet.com www.EvoLoveRaw.com
