It is necessary for most all functions in the body, including digestion, absorption, and circulation. Water helps detoxify the kidneys, helps dilute toxins, and is imperative for transporting nutrients in and waste out of our cells. Seventy-five percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (is likely applies to half the world population.) Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3 percent. Lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue. It is very important to drink enough water every day, especially to encourage detoxification. Carry your own distilled or filtered water (never tap water) and store it in glass, not plastic. Try to drink half your body weight in ounces per day. For example, a 140-pound person would drink 70 ounces of water. Adding lemon to your water is a great way to get the water you need and help alkalize the body, which is especially good during any detox program. Lemon is a natural stimulant to bile production and helps cleanse the kidneys. For people who do not enjoy plain water, make a pitcher of herbal tea and keep it in the fridge. Try chamomile, ginger, or lemon balm. Detox Broth During your cleansing program you may choose to drink vegetable broth throughout the day, which will count as water intake. Bring to a boil chopped organic veggies, such as burdock root, red beets, carrots, onions, celery, daikon, garlic, and any sea veggies, turnips, parsnips. Add fresh organic herbs, such as cilantro, ginger, cayenne, lemongrass, parsley, oregano and fennel. Simmer for several hours. Strain and drink warm, 2-3 cups a day.
