ASK Abby ASK Abby Abby offers Free Consultations - Please call (813) 996-6999 Monday - Friday from 10 am - Noon to make your appointment Do you have a question for Abby? Send your inquires to: AbbysHealthAndNutrition@yahoo.com Dear Abby, My 75-year-old husband has PSA gradually increasing: 1.97 in 2012, 5.1 in 2014, 6.65 in October 2015. He had a cystoscopy in July 2015 and the tissue looked clean. He doesn't have any nighttime symptoms. Any suggestions to keep his PSA from elevating any further? He is hoping to avoid unnecessary cystoscopy in the future. Roberta Dear Roberta, A cystoscopy is used to evaluate the bladder. It can also visualize the inner part of the prostate (prostatic urethra) that lines the urethra. When there is enlargement of the prostate, the degree of obstruction and the length of the prostate can be measured with a cystoscopy. Your husband apparently does not have hypertrophy of the prostate, but the cystoscopy does not rule out cancer. I would suggest your husband's physician check his CRP (C-reactive protein) as elevations in CRP can raise PSA. I would suggest your husband take "Myomin" to reduce elevated estrogens and "Prosta Chi" to promote prostate health. His physician should monitor his PSA, which should drop. The goal is a PSA of 1 or less. Sincerely, Abby Dear Abby, Are there any supplements for injury caused arthritis? Bob Dear Bob, I recommend a timed-released buffered vitamin C to be taken along with proline and lysine in the morning and evening to keep your blood level of vitamin C high. Vitamin C hydroxylates proline to produce hydroxyproline, the main constituent of collagen and also hydroxylates lysine resulting in hydroxylysine, raising elastin to improve tissue elasticity. In addition, MSM and Hyaluronic Acid support articular cartilage. Controlling inflammation is important. Turmeric with high curcuminoids works well. Sincerely, Abby Dear Abby, I have been diagnosed with "essential tremors", which runs in my family. Any suggestions? I have found the following protocol useful: Taurine (1000 mg) AM and PM on an empty stomach Magnesium asporotate taken in divided doses to bowel tolerance Coenzymated B complex on empty stomach upon wakening Inositol powder ¼ teaspoon (600 mg) several times during the day Methylcobalamin 5000 mg sublingual daily Trying this for several weeks and then re-evaluating is my suggestion. Sincerely, Abby Dear Abby, I am a 62-year-old very active female. I take a lot of immune enhancing supplements. I have avoided all vaccinations in the past. What is your advice on the shingles, pneumonia, and flu vaccines? Ruth Dear Ruth, I advise you to research as much as possible all the new data about vaccines. Recently learning about the presence of Nagalase (a protein made by viruses and cancer cells) has made me very wary. I do not know if all vaccines contain Nagalase, but I myself do not recommend them until all this information has been released. Sincerely, Abby Dear Abby, I have a 17-year-old daughter who gets very angry over trivial things. She is also stressed out from school and peer relationships and generally unhappy. She is not on any supplements. What would you recommend? Thank you. Barbara Dear Barbara, I suggest a coenzymated B complex (stress depletes B vitamins). Your daughter may take 2 or 3 when she wakes and an additional 1 or 2 in the afternoon before 3 PM. If she seems worse the week before her menstrual cycle, I recommend "Myomin" to balance her hormones. If she is still depressed after taking the above, I suggest she try "Chi Happiness" if she is not taking medications. Sincerely, Abby Page 6 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysHealthAndNutrition.com
