SUBSCRIBE or RENEW & ENTER A CHANCE TO WIN We could ask many people if they have surrendered their lives to God. Most would answer yes. This leads us to the question, what is a surrendered life to God? A surrendered life is obedient to the direction of the will of God. For most of us, surrender means accepting Christ as our Savior. Webster's definition of surrender is: to yield to the power, control, or possession of another; to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner. We do not belong to ourselves when we are surrendered. A word that is sometimes used in the New Testament is that we become 'slaves' with no rights of our own, only the right to be used by God. "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him" (2 Chronicles 16:9a, KJV). God's eyes are looking for people whose hearts are loyal to Him. He has given us His best, and He desires our best. If we expect to have God's best, then we can have no other will than God's. We must make a total commitment and surrender to Him. This is not a question of accepting Christ; instead, it is a question of whether we will allow Him to fulfill His destiny in us. I see glimpses of people who have sold out to God and am amazed at what God can accomplish through such a person. God is looking for the person who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him. I know that our heart's desire is to be sold out to God, but it must get beyond a willingness to yield and a commitment, for it is then, and only then, that we can see the magnitude of God manifested in our lives. I realize it is hard to surrender one's life totally and absolutely to Christ. We all deal with wanting to hold back certain parts, but we must get to the end of ourselves. Only when we come to this end and lose sight of self- seeking and self-glory can He direct our lives. Our lives are about what we allow the Spirit of God to do through us. We see many instances of God doing the miraculous through people in the Bible. It is never the person doing the works; it is the power of God. It wasn't David or his sling, but the God of David. It wasn't Samson and his strength, but the God of Samson. It wasn't Joshua and his fighting abilities, but the God of Joshua. It wasn't Moses and his rod, but the God of Moses. It isn't you and me but the God we serve. May God challenge us to live a consecrated, fully surrendered life to Him! By John Ogden Sr. A Life Surrendered to God
