Several superfood extracts have been researched to support more youthful testosterone levels. If the cause of "low T" is age-related testosterone decline (andropause), these three ingredients can help support your testosterone production and slow down testosterone loss. 1. Pomegranate Pomegranate is a superfood packed with antioxidants and polyphenols that are not just for heart health. Daily pomegranate juice consumption for two weeks increased salivary testosterone levels by 24% on average. Pomegranate juice is delicious, but like other fruit juices, it contains extra sugar and calories you don't need. Instead, try pomegranate extracts, in which the sugar is removed, leaving just the antioxidant nutrients that support your testosterone production. 2. Cacao Raw chocolate, known as cacao, is also loaded with antioxidants and plant flavanols. Flavanol-rich raw chocolate has been shown to support nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide helps jump-start testosterone production by stimulating the release of hormones that are needed to make testosterone. Thinking about eating more chocolate bars? Well, chocolate bars are typically highly processed and mixed with a lot of sugar, so it is best to stick with just the cacao. 3. Luteolin Luteolin, a plant flavonoid found in superfoods like parsley, thyme, celery, and broccoli, has been shown in preclinical studies to support testosterone in two ways. First, it helps kick off testosterone hormone synthesis by increasing StAR (steroidogenic acute regulatory protein), an enzyme needed to make testosterone. Second, it inhibits aromatase, which slows down testosterone loss. STAY YOUTHFUL—AT ANY AGE For "low T" due to aging, the combination of pomegranate, cacao, and luteolin provides a hormone-free option for men to support their own natural testosterone production and promote healthy mood, weight, sexual function, and more. Pomegranate and cacao extracts have been clinically studied together to support healthy levels of both free and total testosterone. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 115 men ages 36-55 taking 400 mg of the pomegranate and cacao combination for 8 weeks found a 48% increase in free testosterone and a 25% increase in total testosterone. Recently, two clinically studied extracts, pomegranate, and cacao, have been shown to support a man's natural testosterone production.
