FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Bob & Cheryl Schuster The following is our story ; the story of brothers and sister s of Black S heep and how we need to be there for each other. ..t he fellowship and support we should all be giving to each another. The re are so many blessing s that can be f o und in times of simply getting out and DOING . It all started last September with the Durango , Colorado R egional R ally. Six of us from Durango Black Sheep met Kim "Dinky" Lane, Grand Junction Area Contact, Karl Shrieber , p resident of the Durango Chapter, Steve Smith , p resident of Pike's Peak Black Sheep, and his wife Deborah , and Silas from Ohio. All of us had made plans to attend ILS2020 in Colorado Springs and then continue a vacation afterw ards that my wife and I had mapped and planned for the twelve of us attending. I would like for our readers to know a little bit about the people involved from our chapter : I am Bob Schuster, Inland Northwest c hapter p resident, with my wife Cheryl, former chapter s ecretary. Kevin Winans is our c hapter v ice - p resident, with his wife Betty. Kim Haueisen is our c hapter t reasurer, with her husband Fred. Bryan Enos is our c hapter c hapl a in, with his new bride Kelly Jenkins . Our newest members are Dale & Sharon Anderson a nd finally , our two ' Fri ends of Black S heep ' Zach and Amy Hauesisan, son & daughter of Fred & Kim. We were gone fifteen days and traveled 4600 miles through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Oregon and back to Washington. T here were t en motorcycles a nd one four wheel vehicle. Out of the 4600 miles, only about 400 of those were on the Interstate, the majority of them being the last two days. The rest was across beautiful highways, byways and scenic backroads. We visited Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Sedona/Oak Creek and Bryce Canyon ! We road through Monument Valley but the 4 - Corners monument was closed , being on the Navajo Reservation which was hit hard by Covid - 19. We were also looking forward to stopping at the Cameron Trading Post, but it was close d as well. The group spent five days just in Colorado making one big loop around the entire state , using the extra days that would have been spent at ILS 2020 . T hese days were the highlight of our trip for the simple fact that we, as Black Sheep, served G od, fellowshipped with our brothers and sisters, simply feeling fulfilled and blessed for th e opportunity. Before we left Spokane, I had this idea to try and contact Black Sheep in Colorado. So, as we moved on, Bryan said he would contact Kim "Dinky" Lan e in Grand Junction. We wanted to show her support and become better acquainted. Let me tell you, from the minute we arrived it was like instant family ties! Silas, from the Ohio Chapter was now living in Grand Junction so we were reunited with him. Dinky, her mentees and friends had a BBQ for us and t he meal was incredible ! It was a real " Western Slope welcome " said Dinky ! Later that evening we all prayed over her and the group. We " Spokanites " took up a col lection and handed it to her for the ir future c ha pter needs . T he next day, our group rode over the Million Dollar Highway through Silverton to Durango and the Harley Dealership . Our primary purpose, however was to see Karl Schreiber, the Durango president . I had tried to contact him prior to the trip but was unsuccessful. That was ok though, because God took care of it! As we were gathered in the HD parking lot, who drives up? Karl! ( He had been out hiking with his two dogs and just thought he would stop b y the dealership to check on things. ) As Karl arrives, he sees a large group of unidentified Black Sheep and stops ! We had a great time visiting with him , enjoying uplifting conversations and laughs. From Durango, it was off to Alamosa for the night! We spent a couple of days in Colorado Springs. Kelly had taken up the task of contacting the Black Sheep chapter there. This was another opportunity above and beyond our expectations . We were going to meet with the Colorado Spring s c hapter for dinner. Steve & Deborah along with their c haplain, Stephen Cilento and "Lito" Garcia, p resident of the Mile High c hapter (Denver) and his w ife Stacie were there . And to our delight, there were two Black Sheep brother s from the Alamo Chapter in Texas that " just happened " to be in town to visit a friend ! There was a good time of fellowship . Thank you so much to this Colorado group of brothers and sisters for coming together for a meal and fellowship! What an encouragement! The story gets even better. In a conversation with Deborah Smith , she ask ed me if we would be interested in taking part in assisting with a b ike b lessing the next day at an independent church. I jumped all over that and told her "you bet !" It took place the next morning which was Saturday. We met Past or Jayme and boy does she have a great rapport with people. You could see this in the many people that attended. ! We broke up into groups and began blessing bikes and bikers , asking if there were any special requests . It was v ery rewarding to be able to do this. Soon, it was time for us to leave , say our goodbyes and off we went. Before we saddled up each morning, we would gather together and give praise and thank s to God for the beautiful landscape s he had given us to ride through. He su rrounded us with a hedge of protection daily. Our trip was in June and so Covid - 19 presented some challenges, but God was faithful and saw us through it all.
