Page 20 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysMag.com Hi! I have a 20 year old daughter who has anxiety issues. She has tried several meds, but they irritated her stomach so badly that she quit taking them. Can you recommend some natural helps? Thanks It might be best to set up a nutritional consultation with me to figure out what's going on. However, in the mean time maybe try some fresh aloe from our produce department (try ¼ of a leaf per day blended into water or a smoothie and only use the inner gel, not the skin) or slippery elm or licorice capsules or tea, if it truly is "irritation" to her stomach. Knowing which supplements were irritating and knowing what else is going on, if she's on an anti-anxiety medication, and what her diet is like would give me more information. If the options above do not work, then perhaps a nervine herb to calm her stomach and aid digestion would be in order, such as chamomile, lobelia, lemon balm, or maybe peppermint, Swedish bitters, or ginger in capsules or tea or liquid. Chamomile is probably the most mild place to start out of those. You could combine the best of both worlds and make a chamomile and slippery elm tea or do capsules if she doesn't like that. ~ Victor Hi Collin! This is Lynn Evans, I had a consult with you a couple Saturdays ago. I got the following for indigestion/acid reflux and to ward off glaucoma: Slippery Elm (3 - 2x a day, with capsules opened into a small amount of water), Taurine, BosMed, Vectomega, Renew Life Probiotic, Lutein and Eye Pressure Support. I had been on prescription Omeprazol; and as you recommended had alternated it with Slippery Elm for about 10 days. I've been following all your instructions. I'm having significant reflux, seems to be a bubbling up of gastric juices. I'm finding myself taking several Tums a day to get immediate relief from it. It happens no matter how bland my food is. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks so much. ~ Lynn Hi Lynn. It's time to add in Flora brand Swedish bitters alcohol free, 2 teaspoons with each large meal. If that doesn't work, try apple cider vinegar, 1-2 Tablespoons in 3-4 ounces of water with each large meal. Also, increase the slippery elm to 3 caps 3X per day after meals rather than before meals. See if that works. Try goat kefir also instead of tums. Let me know how it goes. Glad you're taking your stuff properly so far! Keep it up. ~ Collin What do you suggest for joint stiffness? (neck & hands) ~ Denise I don't like to recommend too many things without knowing what medications you're on, your age, lifestyle, diet, etc. However, if I'm just talking in general, the best things I know of for the kind of stiffness you are describing are MSM, magnesium, and nattokinase or serrapeptase. Nattokinase or serrapeptase would need to be done on an empty stomach. Do not take either of these if on a blood thinner or if you have a clotting disorder. 2g of MSM twice per day would be the dose to start on for that. It will make you gassy, but that usually goes away in a few weeks. It could be taken any time. 400mg of Magnesium glycinate or threonate would be good. ~ Collin ASK Abby's Staff Do you have a question for Abby's Staff?
