What Do You See? Tom and Dee Sanchez BSHDFC International Chaplains Last month we discussed 'Serving On Empty.' We talked about how we can lose our energy and how we need to be spending time with God to ensure we have the energy to do what we've been called to do. This prompted a discussion amongst a few chaplains about how the feeling of being run-down or out of energy can impact our service. This is what I received from Jay Honeycutt, the Chaplain for our Hickory, NC chapter, when he spotted something in his workshop. What do you see in this picture? Most people would see just a drained and old battery on a charger. When I found this in my workshop I saw something different. We as Christians, and Black Sheep, sometimes are like the battery that is sitting on the stool. We are physically and mentally drained. We become dirty and worn down from constant use. When the world starts to take its toll on us, we are in need of a re-charge! The battery charger is a reflection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. He was born into a world with the understanding that the only Son of God was to be used to grant a tired and dirty world new life, but He too was battered and many times abused. But today He still continues to grant us as sinners new life. To me, the cord that is plugged into the outlet represents the endless power of God the Father. The one cord represents the fact that there is only one way to the Father - through Jesus. 2 Timothy 2: 20-21 reminds us that there are many different types of utensils in a home. "Some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work." Sometimes we all need to be recharged. We need a reminder of just what God can do with us for His honor and glory. If we submit ourselves to Him and let Him empower us, we can be recharged and put back into service. *
