Cherish These Moments Laz Alba/I.P. BSHDFC A few weeks ago, Laura and I, along with our oldest daughter Vanessa, and our son-in-law Rick attended a weekend country music festival in Indio California. To say Laura and I had a good time is an understatement. We enjoyed the food and the music, but most of all, we enjoyed the time we spent with Rick and Vanessa. We all have very busy schedules, and we just simply don't get to spend as much time with each other as we would like to. On one of the nights, as we waited for the headliner to start his performance, we struck up a conversation with a gentleman sitting a few rows in front of us. There weren't many people in their seats at that time. He mentioned that he was from Georgia and that he was attending this music festival in honor of his wife who had just passed away a few months prior. He said that he and his wife loved country music and that they attended many festivals like this throughout the US. They had purchased their tickets before her passing, and it only seemed right for him to now attend with several of his family members. Our conversation was cut short as the concert started. Approximately one hour into the concert as Laura and I were standing, hugging each other listening to one of our favorite songs, the gentleman we were talking to earlier, made his way toward us, stood right in front of us and said to us "Cherish These Moments!" He then immediately retreated to his seat before we could say a word back. I hugged Laura a little tighter for the rest of the song. I regret not getting a chance to speak with this gentleman again during the rest of the festival, but I must confess that his words continued to echo in my mind for days. Today, those simple three words spoken by that gentleman served as a reminder for us to not take today for granted. To cherish our spouses, families, and friends and to be intentional about spending time with our loved ones despite our busy schedules. Furthermore, we agreed to not take our church and church family for granted, and of course we hold dear that we are members of a wonderful motorcycle ministry and have the privilege to serve our Lord Jesus as Black Sheep. In James 4:14 we read that life is just a vapor and recognizing that our lives are like a vapor brings a serious note into our minds. Let's not squander our time on things that have no lasting value; things that don't matter. Instead, let's live our lives like we truly believe what James wrote almost two thousand years ago: "life is just a vapor." Living this way keeps us focused on the things that truly matter and will help us to "Cherish These Moments."
