Chaplain's Corner: "Just Show Up!" Tome and Dee Sanchez BSHDFC National Chaplains Over the last month, Dee and I have had the opportunity to meet with Black Sheep members in different parts of the US. We've been able to see them at biker breakfasts, visiting their dealerships, riding together and attending a major event like Daytona Bike Week. One thought has stood out to us in all of this. Just Show Up! It is vital that we just show up! Sometimes we go to an event like a bike blessing or a regional rally expecting God to show up and for us to minister to others. Sometimes, it just happens…often when we least expect it. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says that where two or three gather in His name, He will be there among them. He doesn't say if you gather for a Bible study I'll be there. Or, if you are at a worship service, I'll be there. He doesn't even say you have to be praying for Him to be there. You just have to show up "in (His) Name". Let me tell you what I've seen when people show up "in Jesus' name". Numerous times I've watched Dee encourage and help someone going through cancer because of what she's gone through. I saw someone not open to the Gospel open up to someone who had an autistic child like they did. I saw brothers gather around someone needing prayer and support, just because they were there and were willing to listen. Interestingly enough, that particular conversation started with a discussion of tire pressure and what was the best seat for a long ride on a touring bike! When we decide to "show up" at a HOG meeting, an open house, a rally, a man-cave, a bike blessing, or a downed biker event, God sets up the divine appointments. He orchestrates people to cross our paths so that we can show that person the love of God. Sometimes, your appointment will be to build a friendship. Sometimes it will be to bring a listening ear. Sometimes it will be to pray with a person. But we must remember the words of Paul in 1Corinthians 3:6. "I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. "(NLT) My challenge to all of us is to "Just Show Up!" If you are a Black Sheep chapter chaplain, an area contact, or someone who just wants to find out more, we will be starting a monthly Zoom call to discuss what's going on in your area. Be on the lookout for more information. To ensure you get included, please email us at Chaplain@bshdfc.org to be added to the list. a
