Join Black Sheep In Four Corners ! Throughout the years BSHDFC has coordinated gatherings in Sturgis, Laughlin, Daytona and more. This September, join us in Utah...I mean Colorado...no, uh... Arizona...or was it New Mexico? More details coming! Save the dates: September 4 - 6, 2020 [Labor Day Weekend!] BSHDFC and Social Media Marty Edwards It's no secret that social media saturates our society; Twitter, Facebook, Instagram...you name it! Facebook alone has more than a billion global users! And is why we have enthusiastically employed it to share the Gospel and introduce BSHDFC. Someone said, "The Internet has turned what used to be a controlled, one - way message into a real - time dialogue with millions." While social media is truly a wonderful miracle, like the invention of the automobile or airplane , there is a risk to be considered. " What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas " may be true for Vegas, but what happens on Twitter stays on Google forever! Almost e verything that has ever been created or invented can be used to glorify God or further the agenda of Satan. A careless post can alienate your friends or jeopardize your job or the effectiveness of your favorite motorcycle ministry. Don't post offensive tweets . Do n 't engage in aggressive online debate . Don't post anything you don't know to be true. Keep it clean . (language, jokes, images, innuendos .) Keep it kind (learn to disagree agreeably) Balance your focus . T he 4 - 1 - 1 rule, which was developed for Twitter, but can be applied to other platforms, is a good template for engagement. The idea is that every time you post something that's "all about you," share at least four pieces of content written for someone else . In short, limit how much you talk about yourself, your dog, your children, your new bike. Understand that your sense of humor isn't universal. What works in the locker room might not be appropriate in a setting where people from different backgrounds c ongregate. This doesn't mean you can't use well - placed humor in your posts – just make sure it's appropriate. Don't Be Reactive . Celebrity Twitter wars may be fun to watch, but avoid getting sucked into your own social media arguments. I'm not sure who said this, but it works for me: " Be careful what you say on social media, because no matter what, we live in a hypersensitive society where people are just looking for any reason to be offended and make a huge deal about nothing. Avoid Over - Sharing . Your social media feeds shouldn't read like an inner monologue. Occasionally sharing what your cat's up to or how awesome dinner was last night is fine. But over - sharing – as in posting your cereal of choice every morning – or an image of your infected toe - nail is definitely TMI . Did you know the Bible has a lot to say about this? Let the Holy Spirit control your tongue : "Even a fool is considered wise when he keeps silent, discerning when he seals his lips." Proverbs 17:28 "The one who guards his mouth and tongue keeps himself out of trouble." Proverbs 21:23 Think before you speak . "The mind of the righteous person thinks before answering, but the mouth of the wicked blurts out evil things." Proverbs 15:28 Be the spokesperson for healing. "There is one who speaks rashly, like a piercing sword; but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Proverbs 12:18 Check your heart . (pride) "All a man's ways seem right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the motives." Proverbs 16:2 Don't get sucked into insults . "A fools displeasure is known at once, but whoever ignores an insult is sensible." 12:16 No one likes a show off . "A fool does not delight in understanding, but only wants to show off his opinions." Proverbs 18:2 Don't argue with an atheist or unbelievers . "When they hurled their insults at him [JESUS], he did not retaliate;
