Winter 2011] about a women’s organ- ization in Guatemala—Asociación de Mujeres Indígenas de Santa María Xalapán Jalapa (AMISMAXAJ)— that’s trying to combat brutality against women there. The little church I attend has been working with a women’s beading collective in Guatemala, buying their products and selling them in our community as a way to help them support them- selves. We want to explore the possi- bility of donating a portion of our profits from this arrangement to AMISMAXAJ—could we get their contact information? —Joey Sprague Professor of Sociology University of Kansas Editors’ note: Our best contact for you is the Guatemala Human Rights Commission, www.ghrc-usa.org. Co- director Kelsey Jones can be reached at kajones@ghrc-usa.org. I am part Guatemalan and I travel to Guatemala to visit almost every year. Reading about the abductions and deaths was heartbreaking. But read- ing about organizations that support these women and girls makes me want to help in some way. Thank you so much for publishing this article; I will be of help from Chicago and next time I visit. —Magaly Ralón Lane Tech High School Chicago LEGAL CORRECTION In the Winter 2011 issue of Ms. [National Short Takes], you report that “Amy Neustein won her eight- year legal battle to gain ownership of the house that her father bequeathed her.” But Neustein’s father did not “be- queath” her the house in a will—he put her name on the deed as co- owner, causing her to become sole owner upon his death without going through the estate. The court case was about the validity of a subsequent change to the deed that would have transferred the father’s half of the property ownership to Neustein’s two other siblings. The court ruled that change invalid. When Neustein’s brother pad- locked her out of the house, he may well have based his actions on the patriarchal tradition followed by Orthodox Jews. But neither those traditions nor any will or inheritance issue was part of the court case. —Ed Ravin Via email OOPS There is an error in the Winter 2011 article “The Gender Gap Lives.” The article states former-Sen. Blanche Lincoln was the senator from Nebraska. She is not. Former- Sen. Blanche Lincoln is from Arkansas. The dick Ben Nelson is from Nebraska. —Summer Kriegshauser Via email Editors’ note: We are red-faced on this one—maybe the name Lincoln just made us think of Nebraska! We certainly know better. Thanks to Summer and others for pointing out our mistake. ADDRESS ALL CORRESPONDENCE TO Letters to the Editor, Ms. magazine, 433 S.
