Duca has previously played a hand in designing electric bicycles, and even worked with the Milan Polytechnic School of Design to develop an electric Duca concept, the Duca Zero. HONDA UNVEILS CUSTOM 'COOL WING' GOLD WING AT DAYTONA BIKE WEEK It's Cool, Indeed! When we think cool custom bikes, we don't usually think of the Honda Gold Wing. The touring machine doesn't necessarily lend itself to customiza on. However, Honda didn't let that stop it from bringing a super-cool custom Gold Wing to Daytona Bike Week. It calls the bike the "Cool Wing." The team at Steady Garage built the bike. The Cool Wing pays homage to the Gold Wing's past while s ll looking to the future. Designer Francis Clemente is the man who came up with the design concept. That concept led the way for the team to go about making the customiza ons. The bike gets air suspension, ba que-style mufflers, a custom hand-cra ed leather seat, and a light blue paint job among other things. The air compressor for the suspension system is hidden away in one of the saddlebags. As far as technology goes, the team didn't skimp out. The bike gets the first-ever motorcycle blind-spot monitoring system among the Gold Wing's other current tech. Steady Garage Co-founder Kevin Dunn sounded proud of the finished product. The project was very challenging due to the Gold Wing's new design, as there was no guidance from any exis ng builds or projects that fit our style. Our hope was to build a custom Gold Wing that would be appreciated by riders of all ages, interests and backgrounds. We had to make it look cool without stepping away from func onality. It goes to show that anything can be customized tastefully with a well-cra ed design and superb execu on. The guys at Steady Garage did a fantas c job, making one of the most alluring Gold Wings out there. FLORIDA MOTORCYCLIST KILLED AFTER POPPING A WHEELIE By Gary Gastelu A Florida motorcyclist was killed mid-March when he popped a wheelie on a public road and was struck by a car that apparently couldn't see him because his headlight was pointed in the air. Florida HP troopers told the Tampa Bay Times that the rider, Tristan Velez, 36, was heading northbound on Florida Avenue in Tampa when a Chevy Cobalt traveling in the opposite direc on pulled out of a le turn lane and into his path. Motorcycles are required to have their headlights on at all mes to make them more conspicuous, even during the day. Velez was thrown off his motorcycle and into the car and died from his injuries at a hospital (no helmet law). The driver suffered minor injuries in the crash. No criminal charges are expected to be filed, according to the Tampa Bay Reporter. PETERSEN MUSEUM OPENS FIRST CUSTOM ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE EXHIBIT By Elizabeth Pucke The Petersen Museum is set to open the first ever all-electric bike exhibit, opening in late April of this year, the Petersen Automo ve Museum is set to become the very first to host a display completely dedicated to electric motorcycles. This exhibit has been dubbed the "Electric Revolu on" and will explore the history and future of the electric bike. "As the transporta on industry moves toward electric-powered vehicles, it is our responsibility as a museum to accurately represent this progression with our exhibits," said Petersen Automo ve Museum Execu ve Director Terry L. Karges. "Because of the growing popularity of e-bikes, we felt it was the right me to debut "Electric Revolu on" and show our audience how these ultra-stylish and contemporary designs are poin ng the way to the future." Since zero-emissions is becoming part of the everyday landscape on the road, its a prominent part of the driving experience that deserves credit where it's due. This will include custom, prototype, racing, and produc on electric motorcycles from CAKE, Neil Connolly, Cur ss Motorcycles, Alta Motors, Shiny Hammer, Blatant Moto, Joey Ruiter and more. American industry stalwart Harley-Davidson, who has graciously underwri en this exhibit, will also provide three recent prototypes from their EV program, including the 2020 LiveWire. The Motorcycle Arts Founda on (MAF) Co-Founder, Paul d'Orleans, has curated the "Electric Revolu on"
