Page 50 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysMag.com the cause of decay. Is it possible that teeth can heal themselves on an ongoing basis? If other parts of the body can do this, why not the teeth? The good news is, a system already exists in the oral cavity to protect the integrity of each tooth, a natural process that goes on all the me, one of de-mineraliza on and re-mineraliza on. Teeth are important to survival and it makes sense there is a way the body supports the integrity of healthy teeth. Here is How it Works A grape enters the mouth, the good bacteria await, adhering to the teeth in a thin layer of biofilm. They start the diges on process which produces acid in the saliva around the teeth, a resultant waste product from the bacteria. The body buffers this increased acid in the saliva by demineralizing the teeth, by pulling out calcium and phosphorus ions. When chewing is finished, food in washed down the diges ve track along with some bacteria, and immediately a new thin layer of biofilm (pellicle) coats the teeth as a protec on from abrasion and from the acid flow to the teeth. To this new s cky surface, free floa ng bacteria again a ach themselves. As the normal pH returns to the saliva, calcium and phosphorous are pulled from the saliva to remineralize the teeth. A balance is reached, no harm done to the teeth. Remineraliza on rebuilds the tooth surface, filling in any crevices, etc. It is a natural ongoing process. What can go wrong here? What throws the demineraliza on-remineraliza on process out of balance? The answer is, the Western Diet with its many varie es of processed foods with numerous chemical concoc ons never encountered in nature. There is an overabundance of complex carbohydrates and concentrated sugars. Processed foods take much longer to digest which prolongs the acid condi on in the mouth, which in turn require more and more de-mineraliza on to occur, robbing the teeth of addi onal calcium and phosphorous. Full remineraliza on never fully takes place and gradually the acid condi ons open the door for bacteria to colonize the fissures and spaces around the teeth and build up protected biofilm communi es, that harden and create anaerobic condi ons. The self healing process is out of balance! Addressing the Microorganism Population Mouths that are healthy and have an effec ve immune system show a higher percentage of certain kinds of beneficial bacteria that apparently are suited to a balanced demineraliza on - remineraliza on environment. EVORAPRO is a specific probio c we use with children to repopulate the mouth with beneficial bacteria to counter the effects of an bio cs and poor diet that deplete beneficial bacteria. This once-a-day lozenge may have extended posi ve effects up into the nose and ears. Children three to ten can experience a lessening of allergies, skin rashes and be er absorp on of nutrients with a balanced flora. Ozone and Cleanings Children can really benefit from simple diet changes, from the inclusion of probio cs, and from ozone dental cleanings. We use the Air Flow Master technology in our Hygiene Department which is very gentle and easily experienced by children. Ozonated oils and water are part of that process. We also offer digital impressions and have found great success even with 2 year olds! Star ng children off with the benefit of a clean and func oning oral environment means a body that can then operate in health. The oral salivary system is already equipped with a system to prevent decay! Let's support that system and do what we can to prevent health problems later in life. Tooth and gum disease, poor jaw structure, and toxicity from deteriora ng root canals and metals is NOT normal! We can have a tremendous effect on the overall declining health sta s cs. Star ng children with this approach makes Natural Den stry, Health Den stry.
