Structure Structure is unseen by most dentists and almost every patient. Many come in asking about mercury fillings and infected root canals, but few, if any, are avidly seeking structural correction. Eating is a primary survival function and good structure in the mouth means the upper and lower jaw, levered at the mandibular joint, can ably handle the bite force of chewing. The entire structure of the body is aligned to support and back up this activity as we see from the Cerebral Cortex of Man quote above. Have you noticed that when you strain to open a jar lid your teeth clinch - proof positive of the connection! And remember, this contact is happening two or three thousands times a day! Just ask Google! The problem arises when the teeth are less and less able to handle the bite force from such occurrences as injury, tooth wear, grinding at night to regain air flow, tooth loss, tooth "straightening" by orthodontists and other dental procedures done without knowledge of the importance of structural integrity for the optimum bite force. The body will then compensate by aligning the entire body structure to keep the best bite position possible, but in doing this the jaw musculature locks into stressed positions causing pain and the spinal alignment and hip position compensate and hold. We often see lower back pain relieve when we restore the correct bite position. Interesting, isn't it, that the body is designed to survive to that extent! We have a computerized Bite Evaluation System to test the musculature of the head, face and neck and the jaw motion opening and closing, to establish a physiological ideal bite position. We then use removable appliances to hold that position, a Micro 02 device for night wear which positions the jaw during sleep for maximum oxygen intake and also a DNA Appliance, an innovative solution that changes the shape of the upper jaw and mid-facial bones allowing a proper bite position by activating stem cells at the cranial sutures. What! Can that be done? Yes, it's the person's natural genes that correct and develop the jaw, teeth, soft tissue and functional space into its correct position. The "ideal bite position" is also used in dental reconstructions and as a guide with other health practitioners to right the entire structure.
