Page 56 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysMag.com Usually people who eat or drink products made with artificial sweeteners in them don't think about the possible side effects of the chemicals that produce the taste they seek. But if you're a diet- product fan and you have joint pain, you may want to take heed: studies show that the sweetener aspartame can contribute to arthritis in your joints, according to arthritis.org. Aspartame is a neurotoxin that can trigger an inflammatory response similar to arthritis in some people, and if you have diabetes, studies have found that artificial sweeteners, including aspartame, may lead to other inflammatory issues such as weight gain and glucose intolerance by altering gut microbiota. Not only that, it's also been found to INCREASE hunger in the long run. Used in more than 6,000 products, it's even been linked in independent studies to chronic conditions like headaches and depression. Don't be misled: artificially-sweetened products are not the answer to your weight loss (or maintenance) issues. If you're thirsty, there is no substitute for good, clean, pure water — recent research even shows that study subjects who drank water lost more weight than those who drank diet soda. To help your body fight inflammation, avoid artificial sweeteners and processed foods, which are high in inflammatory ingredients such as refined sugars and processed fats like trans fats and vegetable oils. The second step is to simply walk more. I recommend aiming for 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day. If you're having a hard time overcoming food cravings including diet soda, be sure to check out Turbo Tapping, which is an extremely effective and simple tool to get rid of your soda addiction in a short amount of time.
