They're always headline news: data center power outages. More
than small inconveniences, they are business-crippling disruptions. A
simple power failure, a small fire or the lack of connection to a backup
generator can cause an outage from which the company may take a
long period to recover. I recently came across an article that said, "the
U.S. economy loses up to USD 550 billion annually due to power outages
and other disturbances." That's more than half a trillion dollars. Annually.
