In fact, energy can be 15–40 percent of operating cost; worldwide, data center power and cooling infrastructure wastes more than 60,000,000 megawatt-hours per year 1 of electricity. To put this number into perspective, one single megawatt can power up to 1,000 homes on average. These facts stress the importance of data center energy management and the responsibility of data center owners and managers to implement and maintain energy-efficient technologies.
