What is Pregnenolone? Pregnenolone is a precursor hormone synthesized from cholesterol, principally in the adrenals, but also in the liver, skin, brain, testes, ovaries, and retina of the eye. Pregnenolone is the grand precursor from which almost all of the other steroid hormones are made, including DHEA, progesterone, testosterone, estrogens, and cortisol. Pregnenolone levels decline with age and many physicians and scientists believe that restoration of pregnenolone to youthful levels is an important step in the treatment of aging and symptoms of aging. What is DHEA? DeHydroEpiAndrosterone is made by the adrenal glands located just above the kidneys. DHEA is the most important steroid produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA travels in the bloodstream to the many cells of the body and converts into male and female hormones. Small amounts are also made in the brain by neurons. If DHEA is used as a supplement, Myomin must be taken with it to prevent its conversion to estrogens.
