Can California's
Title 24 Energy Code
Expand to the U.S.?
By Jeffrey r. clark PhD
Energy is the most critical operating resource for data centers, but the
rising demand for services has painted operators into a proverbial corner:
they face both a growing power appetite as well as growing public
awareness of the need to conserve energy and steward the environment.
Efficiency improvements often make financial sense, but the prospect
of regulations can be nerve racking, particularly since they often impose
arbitrary costs that some companies can ill afford. But could the State
of California's Title 24 energy code serve as the foundation for national
regulation? The answer to that question lies as much in outside factors
as it does in the code.
