Early diagnosis and treatment drama cally enhance the outlook for a full recovery. Relapses are rare but can occur. As a general rule, pets are felt to have higher poten al for recovery than humans. Ves bular Disease is a more common disease and because many of the symptoms are the same as a stroke, it is o en mistaken (incorrectly) for a stroke. The most common causes of ves bular disease are: 1. Middle ear infec on or trauma 2.Brain lesion (tumor or inflamma on) 3. Idiopathic (meaning no one knows what caused it) is the most common. I find that with suppor ve therapy, chiroprac c adjustments, good nutri on (including diges ve enzymes and probio cs) plus a ncture of me,these animals may fully recover. Heart a acks or myocardial infarc ons are rare in dogs and cats Like in humans, heart a acks occur in dogs when blood flow to a por on of the heart muscle is blocked by a blood clot, causing death of the heart ssue. Signs of a heart a ack look like many other diseases: Weakness Lethargy Vomi ng Trouble breathing Fever Lameness Collapse Sudden death The underlying causes are varied as well. Disease affec ng the arteries, kidneys and thyroid, along with infec ons and tumors may all predispose to myocardial infarc ons. Treatment and prognosis depend on the underlying cause and the severity of disease. The take home message is that the best treatment is preven on. Formula for a healthy life: 1. Feed a balanced species appropriate diet consis ng of 95% raw meat from a grass fed free range source. I prefer a diet that has undergone high pressure pasteuriza on which eliminates pathogenic (bad) bacteria but leaves the natural diges ve enzymes in the meat viable. The remaining 5% should be organic vegetables. Balanced diets also include an appropriate amount of bone and organ meat. There are fabulous commercially prepared diets that are more affordable than homemade diets and much less me consuming to feed. Contact me for more informa on on commercial vs homemade diets. 2. Eliminate as many chemicals and toxins as possible from the environment the pet lives in. If you can't pronounce the ingredients on the label, DON'T USE IT. This includes cleaning, washing and air freshening products. My website has blogs with more detail. Vinegar, water and essen al oils are amazingly wonderful and safe. 3. Eliminate as many toxic chemicals in the yard as possible. In addi on to absorbing through your pets skin, those toxins are leaching down into the aquifer, contamina ng our water source. 4. Start and end each day with thoughts of gra tude. I suggest keeping a gra tude journal and each day add at least 3 new things you are grateful for. Bonus- you and your family will be healthier too!
