Studies confirm chiropractic care prevents heart attacks, strokes and lowers blood pressure. Chiropractic care has grown dramatically since the middle of the 20th century. Although most people seek chiropractic care to relieve musculoskeletal pain, certain types of pain may be indicative of the patient experiencing a heart attack just before or during an adjustment. Research indicates that regular chiropractic adjustments may prevent heart attacks, lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, relieve chest pain, and support the cardiovascular system, according to the Palmer Chiropractic College. Studies at the college investigated the effects of chiropractic adjustments on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in reference to an analysis of heart rate variability. Findings indicated that chiropractic adjustments do reduce pain and lower participant's me heart rate. ABC News had a documentary in March of 2008 from a study done at the University of Chicago that suggested that a specific type of neck adjustment may reduce hypertension for some of the 65 million Americans battling it. e University of Chicago study, published in the Journal of Human Hypertension, looked at the possibility of a connection between a spinal realignment and a decrease in blood pressure. e results were amazing. e patients who received the chiropractic adjustments saw their blood pressure drop an average of 17 points, a dip that usually takes two blood pressure medication to achieve. e realignment of the C1 vertebrae operates like a fuse box in the body. When it is twisted, it can pinch arteries and nerves at the neck's base, which not only can cause discomfort but also affects blood flow. A misalignment of the spine can affect all types of things, including diseases and major conditions people suffer from every day. e study also said that having an x-ray done by a Chiropractor can easily show if the bones are in proper alignment. Dr. Tim Johnson, the medical editor for ABC News said during the documentary, that if you are suffering from cardiac issues such as high blood pressure, you should check out chiropractic and its benefits.
