THE DATA CENTER JOURNAL | 25 www.datacenterjournal.com BY STEVE SKURNAC e Benefits of Responsible and Efficient IT Asset Disposal While most operations within a data center remain unique, all make conscious efforts toward efficiency, security and continuous operations that can help reduce costs and in some cases protect and improve a data center's image or reputation. These efforts are all critical to day-to- day operations as well as when upgrading, expanding or making changes in the data center. A common element of data center maintenance involves systematically replacing and upgrading existing equipment. This concept was labeled a few years ago by Gartner as IT asset disposition (ITAD), referring to the process of methodically removing IT equipment from an IT environment and responsibly disposing of the retired devices.
