s high-profile security
breaches involving major
household names continue
to make headlines, the
challenge for businesses,
and SMBs in particular, is to understand
the threats and determine how best to
protect their data and respond in the
event of a security breach.
Feedly and Evernote have both
fallen victim to DDoS (distributed
denial of service) attacks recently, and
Dominos Pizzas was threatened for
ransom with publication of more than
600,000 customer records in France and
Belgium. ankfully, no credit-card de-
tails or other financial data was stolen in
this case, but the the of personal infor-
mation is always bad news for custom-
ers—especially passwords, since, sadly,
many people use the same passwords for
many or all of their online accounts.
Although DDoS attacks are more
likely to target big businesses, the fact
that CryptoLocker has once again ap-
peared in the news is certainly some-
thing that smaller businesses should be
