Introducing vs Recruiting Laz Alba, International Pres BSHDFC As many of you may know, we launched a billboard campaign several weeks ago. My prayer is that through the campaign, the Lord will bring us laborers (Matthew 9) that are compelled to unite with our ministry and are passionate about our mission and mission field. The campaign was birthed out of a desire to introduce our ministry in a very unique way to individuals that may not have heard of us and was not intended and should not be interpreted as a recruitment drive. Let me be clear, there's nothing wrong with introducing our ministry. In fact, you and I are now Black Sheep members because we were first introduced to this wonderful ministry through a brochure, a breakfast flyer, website, a social media post, a friend or the patch on the back of a member riding down the highway etc. Introducing our ministry is simply letting someone know that we exist and inviting them to check us out, nothing more and nothing less. Recruiting on the other hand is something that we should never do. We should never try to convince or push someone to join us. There is a process to join our ministry and our bylaws and mentorship program are clear on this issue. As an example, I have two very good friends that I've known for twenty years. Each of them are believers and ride motorcycles. When Laura and I joined Black Sheep in the early 2000s, I was extremely excited to introduce the ministry to my good friends and I did! I never tried to convince them to join even though I would have so enjoyed serving Jesus with them through BSHDFC. As it turned out, neither joined BSHDFC, they both had commitments that made it difficult to serve in our ministry and I understood that. I could've easily pushed the issue, been persistent about joining and by doing so maybe even convinced one or both of my friends to eventually become members (this was before mentorship), but I didn't. It would not have been fair to them or the ministry. To this day we're still good friends. My Black Sheep family, we are members of a motorcycle ministry that is unique, has a specific mission and mission field, and is ordained by God - next year we celebrate our 25th anniversary, how awesome is that? Be excited and willing to introduce our ministry to individuals that have not heard of us. On the other hand, recruiting or convincing someone to join us should never be done. Love you all, Laz Alba a Photo by: Tom Sheltraw - Orange Co. Calif. BSHDFC "The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of Light."
