Tools of the Trade -
CFD, CAD, BIM
BY VALI SORELL P.E. AND ALBERT ALDERETE
There are sophisticated digital design tools of the
trade used by architects, engineers, and owners that
assist with optimizing the design of data centers. The
most sophisticated tools available today are mainly
software packages that require some level of 3D or
solid modeling. The use of these is often not well
understood, and at times are even used interchangeably
or incorrectly. Between Computational Fluid Dynamics
(CFD), Computer Aided Design (CAD), and Building
Information Modeling (BIM) there is a world of varied
applications, and each needs to be understood better.
