The Ride Of My Life! Text by John Lyons Photos by Peter Kaye I've have owned and still ride what I consider the best of both worlds of motorcycle touring bikes. I've ridden over the past 12 years, and over 200,000 miles. Only our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ knew what He had in store for my life. Blessings that came at a time in my life that I thought would never ever be blessed again. If you know Jesus like I now know Jesus, you will understand that He keeps his promise when He said, "know that I will not leave you nor forsake you!" My riding adventures all started back in 2009. I had just lost my wife of 28 years. She had spent four years battling late stage-4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and after many ups and downs, she lost the battle in 2009. Being Christians and a big part of our local church for pretty much our whole married life we were surrounded with all the love, caring, support, and prayers anybody could ever possibly have when the storms of life pop up. Life has a way of bringing us to our knees at times, and this storm certainly did just that. It took my wife's life and left me alone. I will confess that I didn't take her passing well. I became numb, angry, and bitter towards those who had always been there. I was especially bitter towards God for not answering our prayers by saving her life. In my mind I couldn't comprehend that our Lord didn't answer all of our prayers to save her life. I went off the deep end, cared about nothing other than my dog JJ and could only think about how I just lost half of myself. After a few months, at the age of 62, I decided that there was nothing left to work for, so I retired. I had this idea that I'd buy a Harley and just get the heck out of dodge and travel the roads of life anywhere they would lead me. So, I bought my first touring bike, a 2009 Road King Classic, and my journey began. I can attest to the fact that "God never leaves us" even when we leave Him. "I couldn't comprehend that our Lord didn't answer all of our prayers." I soon found out that the Lord had a different road and journey in mind for me to take. Rather than just riding down the highways and backroads of this life feeling sorry for myself He had a purpose for me. One day as I sat on my couch still angry and confused, I heard his voice tell me to open my Bible, so I opened it and it fell open to Matthew 6.
