Our Journey Is Not Over Joyce Heritage, Anchorage BSHDFC After twenty - five years of not riding , my husband Mark wanted another motorcycle. He had been showing me photos of Harleys for the past year. It was close to Christmas 2015 when he showed me a photo of a Heritage Softail and said, "Look Hon, it's got our name on it!" I said, "Go get it". He almost tripped going down the stairs to get to His truck to go to the Harley shop. About a half hour later he came back in with a frown, and said "The y'r e closed for the holidays!" When they opened the next month, we went in and picked out a bike. The salesman gave us a tour of the building, and downstairs there were several bikes in winter storage. One had a decal on the windscreen that said BLACK SHEE P. Mark asked the salesman about it and he said it was a Christian motorcycle group. Mark looked at me and said, "We serve an awesome God, this bike isn't going to be just for fun". A bout a year later, Mark was patched into the Anchorage chapter of Blac k Sheep: Harley - Davidsons for Christ. I had become, as Mark said, a WOB (Woman of Black Sheep). I had been fighting lung cancer off and on since 2007. Not only had the Lord taken care of me, He also put me in a position where I could minister to other can cer patients while waiting for my appointments. I started riding on the back of the bike with Mark to various events with the chapter. It wasn't long after we got started that Mark talked me into getting my own bike. I had never operated a motorcycle in my wife , so Mark signed me up for a class that Harley was giving. I got through the written part fine, but when it came to the riding ( because of my previous cancer issues ) I couldn't balance the bike . I had to stop. Soon thereafter, more cancer was found and I had to go through radiation, chemo and immune therapy . It took several months ! When it was done , they determined I was cancer free ! Mark and I drove home from the hospital and he took me straight to the garage . There she was! Mark bought me a Harle y - Davidson Sportster trike! He said, "Hon, our journey's not over yet." My husband showed me how to ride and coached me out on to the road with the help of intercoms in our helmets. I took the test and passed it the first time. Later, a fter completing the BSHDFC mentorship classes, I was patched into our chapter in June of 2018. Riding and ministering with our HOG members has opened up a whole new world of opportunity for me to share the love of Jesus. My husband and I are very active in our church, bu t this gets us out to " Go into all the world..." as the Lord command ed us . We have developed many new friends with HOG and our chapter is very faithful in serving them. HOG members enjoy having the Black Sheep around. Recently, my oncologist called and said she thinks some of the cancer may have returned in a very small amount . She wanted me to come in again for more therapy . On my third treatment, it was warm enough (high 20 ' s) to ride my trike to the hospital. While I was there, I took this photo (BELOW) out the window. I showed it to Mark, and he said, "Looks like the big Black Sheep dropped by to look in on you!" I would like to let you all know, we have an awesome ministry with the Black S heep and our Father in heaven continues to bless us.
