Page 8 | www.BlackSheepHDFC.org When BSHDFC began, there were no patches, there were no bylaws, there were no pledges, there were no dues. There were just five motorcycles, five men, two women and one pre y good idea of what they wanted to do. These were indeed humble and awkward beginnings, but history tells us that healthy things grow and growing things change. In an age where many want to erase history, we choose to remember our roots, learn from our mistakes, celebrate our victories and prepare the best we can for the future. In 2019, Black Sheep HDFC is growing and changing faster than ever before. Regional boundary lines have been expanded to be er serve our members. ILS (Interna onal Leadership Summit) was suspended and Zone Rallies were inserted in its' place – for a season. In the beginning there was no mentorship and now there is talk of "Mentorship II" or perhaps "Officer Training." It's not just the Black Sheep. Indian is giving Harley-Davidson a run for its money and the "Live Wire" (the electric Harley) is just freaking some people out, but does anyone remember, "Hear No Evo, See No Evo?" Harley-Davidson has changed and so have the Black Sheep. Here are some of the only photos we have from BSHDFC's first year. They serve to remind us of how far we have come and what Marty Edwards looked like with hair. We may have started with a small 2"x4" patch, but today we have a full uniform. A few s ll prefer the "good 'ol days" when we could wear anything we wanted but today, most members remark how good it looks when a dozen Black Sheep enter a room and look like they're all on the same team. In the 1999 group above there are only Harley-Davidson motorcycles but a photo from a week ago is likely to include Indians, Victories and maybe even a chopper or two. The older we get the less we like change – and the reason we don't like change is because we fear it! We fear that things won't be "like they used to be" and for sure, they won't be! It hurts for some of us to watch Harley-Davidson as they struggle with the changes they are going through with culture and a new genera on of riders, but what are their op ons? They know change is coming and they are making some bold decisions. "Change is inevitable, growth is op onal." The Black Sheep are in God's hands! He started us and if He chooses, we will adapt and go forward. The Sheep must have no sacred cows! Things for this ministry will con nue to change and grow, stretch and maybe even tear a bit, but it's ok… growing pains have always been a sign of new life. Let us stay focused on Christ and true to the mission! One thing that never changes is that bikers s ll need to hear about Jesus! ORIGINS
