When a pest, fungus, bacteria, or virus adapts to a GE crop, it will literally have a field day, causing communities, even nations, to be left with extensive and paralyzing food losses. before you eat something whether there is anything in it that could make you sick. Or maybe you have religious beliefs that preclude eating foods containing mixed species. Or maybe you just dont like the fact that the government doesnt require rigorous safety testing or labeling of GE foods. ...unless you really know what foods to watch out for, you are probably eating genetically engineered foods every day. Does genetic engineering affect your life? If youre a parent, you might be concerned that your kids are gobbling up GE candies and pizza or that your newborn is drinking infant formula with GE organisms in it that have never been tested on humans. If youre pregnant, you might start to wonder if the milk youre drinking will harm your fetus because it comes from cows that have been injected with a GE hormone thats linked to cancer. If youre taking vitamins to supplement your diet, you might be concerned that your vitamins contain GE ingredients that could be reduced in nutritional value. Or maybe you have breast cancer and are eating extra soy products because your doctor told you soy iso-flavones might help you get better. But those soy products may come from Monsantos GE Roundup Ready soybeans, a crop that has been engineered to be herbicide resistant, and that those soybeans might turn out to be saturated with the herbicide Roundup and actually have lower concentrations of iso-flavones. Or maybe you have food allergies and have to know Whatever you feel, unless you really know what foods to watch out for, you are probably eating genetically engineered foods every day. Here are the facts: In the past four years, over 40 varieties of crops have been genetically engineered, including more than 80% of our soybeans, 50% of our cotton, and 85% of our corn impacting over two thirds of the foods in our grocery stores. The biotech industry intends to genetically engineer all of our food within the next five to ten years. If scientists are still debating whether GE foods are safe or not, why are they on the market? My advice is to always try to purchase products that are certified organic and/or Non-Gmo Project Certified.
