BSHDFC E-Mag March 2018 | Page 9 What if my objec ve is to see my ministry grow and Christ glorified? Without objec ves and set goals, the seasons just come and go with no measurable fruit. "More of the same will change nothing." SMART goals say: (1) "We want our chapter to make a difference in people's lives." That's SPECIFIC. (2) "We want to lead 3 people to Christ this year and increase our chapter membership by 10%. That's MEASURABLE. (3) To answer the ques on "Is this ATTAINABLE?" we certainly need to pray for wisdom and talk among ourselves. It's be er to aim a li le high and reach MOST of your goal than aim low and hit exactly what you expected. (4) Is our goal RELEVANT? Absolutely! We are a MINISTRY not a CLUB. We have a Great Commission to keep, therefore, our relevant goal is to: (a) reach the lost and (b) build our chapter. It's scriptural: "35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plen ful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Ma hew 9:35-38) Jesus tells us there are PLENTY who are ready to receive Christ…. but our numbers are few compared to the many. Therefore, PRAY for growth that we would have enough workers. Our primary focus of ministry is 2.5 million HOG members! As the man said, "I think we're going to need a bigger boat!" Other chapter goals might include: • Star ng a sister chapter • Raising $1000 for a just cause. • A certain number of rides or events Some think goals confine and restrict our freedom while in fact goals… • Set us free • Get us started • Give us direc on • Show our progress which in turn • Encourages, energizes and inspires! Anything less than se ng goals and objec ves is just sloppy ministry. American entrepreneur and author Jim Rohn said, "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment." Don't you want to come to the end of a year and be able to celebrate the fruit of this ministry? As I write this ar cle I can almost hear some sigh in protest, "Why can't we just ride and tell people about Jesus." The answer is, "Because the mission of building teams who have been called to reach bikers for Jesus is too urgent to be done haphazardly." I have said before, "Throwing a dart at the wall and then drawing a circle around it does not make it a bulls-eye." What would you like to see happen in your chapter between now and Christmas? Do you need or want more members? Then set a goal and begin to work and pray for them to come in. Do you need a chapter trailer or a new event booth? How much will they cost? That's your goal! Would you like to see some bikers come to (or back to) Christ this year? Sure you would! Then make a list of name and begin to pray as a chapter. Tell God what you would like to see happen and be sure that all of the credit goes to Him when it does. John Piper writes, "One of the signs that God is going to do a great work is that he begins to s r up his people to pray for it. He lays a burden on a person here and a person there. He brings it back to their mind again and again. It stalks them. It drives them to their knees." The Bible says, "We do not have because we do not ask." What good thing will you ask God for that will build the Kingdom of God and fill the bleachers in Heaven? (That's the objec ve.) How much of a good thing can you believe God for? (And that's your goal! Aim high!)
