17 Terrence malick's the tree of life SAT, SEP 30 | DELL HALL | 7:30PM Featuring the Austin Symphony Orchestra & Chorus Austin Part coming-of-age story and part divine commentary, Terrence Malick's star-studded and slow-burning art film, "e Tree of Life," sparked dialogue within the industry. As parents of young boy Jack, Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt animate the extremes of experience— adolescence, light and dark, motherhood and fatherhood—as remembered through the childhood memories of Sean Penn's adult Jack, wrestling with the death of his brother years later. Enchanting and dissonant, Alexandre Desplat's score brings a haunting depth to this memory-world, supported by the dramatic Romantic-era compositions of 19th-century titans like Mahler, Brahms and Smetana that bring this identity narrative full circle. Star Wars: a New Hope WED-THU, OCT 11-12 | DELL HALL Featuring the Austin Symphony Orchestra John Williams' legendary "Star Wars" score didn't just enhance a great story, it gave life to an entire galaxy. From "Binary Sunset" to the "Imperial March," the themes of "A New Hope"—celebrating its 40th Anniversary year—ushered in a renaissance of film music, the likes of which Hollywood hadn't seen in decades. Williams created fully-formed characters and a compelling narrative in which millions of fans could lose themselves without ever having to open their eyes. Presentation licensed by Disney Concerts in association with 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm and Warner/Chappell Music. Live-To-Picture is brought to you in partnership with 17 PHOTO COURTESY "FOX SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES"
