4 An Evening with Neil Gaiman THU, JUL 6 | DELL HALL | 8PM Literary Titan and Mastermind of "American Gods" Continues to Tell Stories and Mesmerize Us As a child who voraciously read Rudyard Kipling, Shelley and J.R.R. Tolkein, Neil Gaiman developed an early love for parentheses. Now with the success of the television adaptation of his gritty Norse-American fantasy "American Gods" swirling around him, it's clear that clever parenthetical asides were just the beginning. An author famous for his love of the Gothic and fantastical, Neil Gaiman is a weaver of dreams and a creator of worlds. e late 1980s and '90s saw Gaiman splashing on to comic book shelves with DC Comics' "e Sandman." After several novel projects, he famously collaborated with Terry Pratchett (celebrated author of "Discworld") on "Good Omens." Making the jump to the other forms of entertainment, Gaiman moved between television, radio, film and print with major titles like "Neverwhere," "Stardust"(his take on fairy tales), "American Gods" and "Anansi Boys," and then into children's literature with "e Graveyard Book" (a retelling of "e Jungle Book") and film with the spooky "Coraline." Leaving virtually no medium untouched, Gaiman's signature Gothic spin on genre and marvelous creation of otherworldly environments has earned him a continued place on bestselling lists as well as numerous awards, including the Carnegie and Newberry medals. Now Gaiman has moved on to the nature of myth, continuing the themes of "American Gods"—a haunting chronicle of forgotten cultural deities and the American experience—into his latest lauded project, "Norse Mythology."
