ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC represents those packaged-products which are suited to Ship In Own Container (S.I.O.C.), meaning they do not need any additional packaging preparation or over boxing by Amazon. These packages ship directly to the end consumer as they were received by Amazon. This test accounts for the handling upon receipt at Amazon, storage while within Amazon's fulfillment centers and the outbound shipment method, either small parcel or less-than-truckload (LTL). In comparison to items ready to ship in its own packaging, ISTA 6-Amazon.com-Over Boxing comprises individual retail packaged-product weighing 70 pounds or less that need additional packaging prior to being sent to the end consumer. The retail packaged-product is either placed into an Amazon shipping box (i.e. Over Box) either by itself with the addition of air pillow dunnage or with multiple individual retail packaged- products from various vendors with dunnage. This test focuses on the pack out process at Amazon's fulfillment centers which could include a mixed product configuration, through delivery to the end consumer via a small parcel delivery system. What is the difference between the e-Commerce test protocols ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC and ISTA 6-Amazon.com-Over Boxing? Eric Hiser ISTA Vice President - Technical ISTA Technical Update New Test Protocol: Project 6-Amazon.com-Over Boxing ISTA is pleased to announce the newest test protocol, Project 6-Amazon.com-Over Boxing. This general simulation test for e- Commerce fulfillment accounts for an individual retail packaged-product weighing 70 pounds (32 kilograms) or less being placed into a master shipping container (Over Box) either by itself with the addition of dunnage (air pillows, etc.) or with multiple individual retail packaged-products from various vendors with dunnage for shipment from Amazon.com to an end consumer through a parcel delivery system. Full details of this new test protocol can be found on ista.org through the Member Center. ISTA Procedure Revisions ISTA test protocols 3A, 3B, 3E and 3F are undergoing technical revisions and nearing completion of the formal process for Procedure Change. The changes are unique to each procedure and details of each change will be shared in future communications. If you should have questions about the forth coming changes or ISTA's formal Procedure Change process prior to their release, please contact Eric Hiser at ehiser@ista.org. Reusability Test Development ISTA's Reusability workgroup continues to make progress towards its goal of developing a means of evaluating the number of shipments a complete packaged-product system can withstand prior to the product becoming damaged. If you have interest in contributing to the workgroups efforts, please contact Eric Hiser at ehiser@ista.org ISTA MEMBERS: Visit the ISTA Member Center at www.ista.org to download these procedures for FREE!
