CHAPTER TWO Get Started 7 Ways To Think About Your Work By Patricia Heitz people. In our touch-phobic society, sometimes our touch is the only time someone is touched at all. I invite all estheticians to adopt these simple principles of self-awareness to be able to give the very best to those we touch and contribute to the healing of our world. Use the following checklist to keep focused on your holistic mission. M 1. BE A CONDUIT OF WELLNESS Whatever kind of day you are having, your coworkers, and especially clients, don’t care. As an esthetician, you are a caretaker and vehicle of wellness. Take care to be considerate and nurturing to others. You can choose your behavior. A positive person does not blame circumstances, conditions, or people for their problems. Take responsibility for your behavior and never inflict negativity toward clients or others—including gossip. When you get involved in any gossip, whether it is a conversation with a client or a peer, it is negative. It will always come back to you. The clients come to you for a relaxing, positive service, including a relaxing atmosphere. Make sure you give them that. 2. MAKE A COMMITMENT TO SELF-GROWTH Whatever you believe becomes your reality. What do you believe about your work, your life, yourself? Is it good? Is it time for some adjustments? When you have more self-esteem and confidence, you will have more to contribute to your clients. any of us never think about the deeper meaning of our work as estheticians. We spend our time literally touching First, set goals for yourself because goals give you someplace to go. Without goals, it’s difficult to grow and move forward. There is nothing more exhilarating than working toward a goal and accomplishing it. Begin every day with goals. Sit down, map out where you want to be in one to five years. Break it down monthly, weekly, and daily. Do at least one thing every day to bring you closer to achieving your goals. You can have other short- term goals, such as losing weight, mixed in, but be sure to do something every day. Sometimes, you can just add a daily goal such as “I will be more patient today.” Write down a difficult situation and promise yourself to be better. Maybe you have a difficult client. How can you deal with her better? When she comes in, plan to show her love and respect. You won’t believe how good you both will feel. Second, after setting your goals, create your vision. When you have written down your long-term goals, visualize yourself already being there. Whatever you think about expands. The more you think about it, the sooner it will happen. What does your goal look like? Picture yourself at your goal. Where and what are you doing? What’s the feeling like? Use all your senses. Erase the negatives from your mind. This creates a reality in your mind that this exists. Putting all your thought energy into your vision will lead you to, and attract, all the events to manifest your desire. Commit to surrendering any and all resistance—allow yourself to fully trust. What limiting beliefs do you have? You will need to turn them around in order to really achieve what you want. The opportunities to make this happen will find you if you have faith and www.ascpskincare.com successful business handbook 9
